Got some shelves up in the garage finally!
If your brain hurts a wee bit, it’s because this garage was completely underwater at one point.
I also jacked up the floor in The area where the shelves about a foot to make it somewhat level.
Yes that is a full-size Chevy hiding underneath my house. When this flooded, 3 feet of water came into the house. Flood was in 2010
This photo is from the back deck. Stupid floody river.
I think the water was still rising at this point.

Holy crap! The river was up to 3ft into the first level? That’s some crazy shit. Was that a once in a lifetime flood?

Yup it was three feet into the first floor. This was my wife’s father’s house. He was planning on riding the flood out. Then the water reached the deck and he had to be rescued by air boat. I will see if I can get pictures. Yeah it was a 100 or 1000 year flood I think and I also heard a dam broke somewhere. But two years ago water came up level with the yard on the left side of the house.

I won’t give the town name but, I live along the Zumbro River in Southeast Minnesota. I am north of Rochester near Millville.

What are your plans for the garage?
How does the garage handle flooding?

The plan for the garage is to get it back to square. I plan on getting a concrete floor in there so I can actually work on cars. I also plan on re siding it with tin. I am not allowed to tear it down and build another one because flood zone. I am allowed to mess with the current structure. It sucks a little.

ahh i gotcha, its just odd to me to see stilt houses somewhere other than the coast, even here in illinois houses built on the rivers are flat on the ground

Zoning laws stink. Those sound like very good plans.

Yeah it does stick out. Most people use it kind of as a landmark. It’s the only house on stilts in the area. My father in law only had to build it 4 ft off the ground for zoning but did it I think about 7 feet so he could park underneath.
